How did you obtain your job?

Interview through ACES Career Development Center...and help from Dean Olson, Wessels, and Carol.

What do you enjoy most about your position?

My current position with John Deere is Manager of Events and Promotions for the Construction & Forestry Division. I enjoy the interaction with customers and dealers in many different venues such as shows and fly-in events. I am also proud to promote the John Deere brand as it stands for more than 171 years of integrity, quality, innovation and commitment to so many loyal followers.

What advice can you provide current students seeking a career in this field?

Focus on business basics and become a fundamental expert at communication (both verbal and written,) leadership, time and project management, and motivating others.

Achievements

In the 19.5 years at John Deere I have been very fortunate to experience more than a dozen different job areas. My background before and during my college career prepared me well to tackle and excel at these different assignments. I have enjoyed each of them and feel they have all prepared me for even greater opportunities within John Deere and will allow me to better serve the company and our customers.

What was your favorite memory as a student in the College of ACES?

Interacting with the college staff. Recieving guidance and coaching/mentoring from Dean Wessels and Dean Olson is something I still think of often. Their advice has been very valuable and has served me very well.

How do you feel the College of ACES prepared you for your future?

ACES provide me with a well rounded education and varied experiences and disciplines that prepared me well for working for a corporation like John Deere. The cirricullum at the time provides for flexibility to explore interests and develop skills I use everyday in my job.

What advice would you give current students while a student in the College of ACES?

Think BIG, make contacts, and master the basics.

Why did you choose to come to the University of Illinois and College of ACES?

National and Agricultural Reputation, proximity to Midwest, Educational and Campus Opportunities.

What is your favorite memory on campus?

Many to list...but being part of the Marching Illini has left me with many fond memories...and new ones also as I participate in the Alumni MI each year at Homecoming.

What activities were you involved in on campus?

Marching Illini, Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity, and Ag Economics Club.
